Portal Corporation Experiments with Local Travel

In a rare press release today, Portal Corporation revealed that it has begun experimenting with intra-dimensional travel.

An unnamed scientist who works for the company told the Paragon City Free Press, “With the success we have been having moving scientists and heroes between dimensions, we have decided to begin the first stage of setting up portals to move much shorter distances.  In theory, you could move to the other side of the world in a few steps, but we’ve decided to start by building portals within the city.”

The work being attempted is clearly visible on the campus of Portal Corporation, though the general public is not allowed on the site.  Photographs of the new portals are prohibited, but one of Paragon City’s interdimensional traveller heroes, unaware of the policy, took a photograph of a new portal leading to the Rikti crash site.

When asked about the possibility of invasion from the other side of the portal, Unai Kemen, Security Chief for Portal Corporation, said, “We’re taking all necessary precautions.  We’ve fortified the portals on both sides, stepped up the military presence in the area, and are recruiting heroes to regularly patrol both areas.  It won’t be any more dangerous in Peregrine Island than it already is.  In fact, we’re hoping that a side benefit of this experiment will be to make the Rikti Crash site safer by providing a much shorter supply line for heroes and military personnel there fighting the remaining Rikti invaders.”

Officials at Portal Corporation could not be reached for comment on whether more portals will be created to expand travel in Paragon City, but Unai Kemen did verify that more intra-dimensional portals have been built in remote dimensions to aid in military and research transportation.
